About Us

St. Barnabas Episcopal Church in Lafayette, Louisiana, is a Christ-centered, inclusive, and diverse fellowship built on the foundation of Discipleship, Hospitality, and Encouragement. We grow together by welcoming all to a place at the table.

Who We Are

We are a vibrant, medium-sized congregation—small enough to feel like family, yet large enough to offer enriching programs for all ages. For adults, we provide Christian formation, Bible studies, ministries, choir, and numerous fellowship groups.

For children and youth, we provide a variety of programs including Little Lambs / Mother’s Day Out, Children’s Chapel, Episcopal Youth Community (EYC), and Camp Hardtner. Our youth also serve on the altar, building a foundation of faith from a young age.

Whether you are new to the Episcopal Church, exploring Christianity for the first time, or seeking a spiritual home in Lafayette, we invite you to discover St. Barnabas. Our clergy and community are ready to walk with you in faith, answer questions, and share the joy of life in Christ.

Join us for worship and experience the beauty of the Episcopal Church—where prayer shapes belief and love shapes everything we do.

What We Believe

We hold to the timeless truth of Scripture: “nothing but Jesus Christ and him crucified” (2 Corinthians 2:2). We live our faith through the rhythm of worship, fellowship, and prayer, following the early church’s example in Acts 2:42.

We believe in the Triune God—Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. We proclaim Jesus Christ as fully God and fully human, who died for our sins and rose again, drawing all people to himself (John 12:32).

In the Episcopal tradition, we say “lex orandi, lex credendi”— the way we pray shapes what we believe. Worship is at the heart of who we are, and the best way to understand our faith is to join us for Holy Eucharist on Sundays.

Our Sacramental Life
Through the sacraments, we encounter God’s transforming grace. In Baptism, we are welcomed into the Body of Christ. In the Holy Eucharist, we receive the Real Presence of Jesus Christ and are nourished for the journey of faith. We honor the historic teachings of the Church, expressed in the Nicene Creed and the 39 Articles of Religion.

We exist to walk as Jesus did – forming a holy, accepting, and grace-filled community that welcomes all to the table, respects the dignity of every human being, and transforms the world through God’s love.
