Children & Youth Ministries

“Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of Heaven belongs to such as these.” — Matthew 19:14

Youth Choir

Youth Choir is for children in grades 1 – 8 who want to make a joyful noise. Together, we will learn music to showcase during the Sunday services and other special events. There will also be the occasional collaboration with the Adult Choir. For more information or to join, please contact Mr. Shawn Roy or Jennifer Bolling.

Nursery

Our Sunday nursery is available starting at 8am for our two morning services and Christian formation time. All staff are well trained professionals, who love watching our youngest members each Sunday, and as needed for other church activities. Please reach out to the church office if your event needs childcare.

Children’s Chapel

Children’s Chapel is designed for children in Kindergarden-5 grade, who want church to be in an environment and language meant for kids. Children’s Chapel has the same readings and order of service as the 10:30am service, but in language and format built for their ages. We sing, wiggle, ask questions, and pray then rejoin the 10:30am service at The Peace-right before Eucharist. This program gives children space and time to be children, and their parents space to participate in worship.

Little Lambs Mother’s Day Out

Little Lambs was founded in 2014 to serve the childcare needs of the members of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church and the community. At Little Lambs, the director, assistant director, and teachers strive to model Christ’s love, and our program encourages children to enjoy God’s splendor through their own eyes and within their hearts.

Camp Hardtner

Camp Hardtner, located in Pollock, Louisiana, is home to Louisiana’s only Episcopal summer camp. The mission of Camp Hardtner is “to seek to provide an atmosphere that promotes both personal and spiritual growth and renewal for all guests.”

Camp Hardtner has long been an important part of childhood for many St. Barnabas families, and we encourage and support all who want to attend—including through scholarships. Everyone who wants to go to camp should get to go to camp! We also have many former campers and camp staff at St. Barnabas who would love to share their stories and fond memories.

Children’s Activities

Each week a new activity sheet or booklet will appear on the tables in the Narthex (lobby). Complete the puzzles with the help of your Bible (maybe a sibling or friend) and return to the “Done” box. These are designed for children in 3rd – 6th grade to complete while at church or at home. Each activity booklet earns a key, and each season a winner with the most keys will be celebrated! This is great for children who attend services, or anyone who wants a challenge in learning more about the Bible, the Church and our faith. We’ve also got “busy bags” with activities for young children who attend Sunday services.
