Community

St. Barnabas Episcopal Church is committed to being a visible, active presence in the wider community by offering programs that extend care, compassion, and connection beyond Sunday morning. Through outreach, service opportunities, and partnerships with local organizations, the church helps meet real needs while creating spaces where people can find support, belonging, and hope—living out faith through meaningful action and shared responsibility for the well-being of our neighbors.

St. Barnabas Playground

St. Barnabas is raising funds for a wonderful new playground and a vital extension of Little Lambs Mother’s Day Out, our childcare and preschool ministry. Outdoor play is essential in early childhood, helping children build physical strength, coordination, and confidence while encouraging curiosity and imaginative play. For children in our program, the playground is a place where lessons learned indoors come to life through exploration, cooperation, and joyful movement.

Beyond its role in early learning, the St. Barnabas playground serves as a welcoming space for families and neighbors in our congregation as well as the wider community. By opening our playground to the public, we reinforce our commitment to hospitality and welcome.

As both an educational resource and a community asset, our new playground will reflect the mission of St. Barnabas – to be a beacon of love in this community. Investing in this shared space is an investment in children’s well-being, family life, and the enduring value of a church that opens its doors and its grounds to all.

Food Pantry

A former rector at St. Barnabas challenged our congregation to, “Feed the hungry, clothe the poor, and love those who have no one but you to love them.” The St. Barnabas Food Pantry is among the ways we’ve responded.

This self-service, take-what-you-need pantry is open to all and available 24/7. It’s located in a small building just steps away from the memorial bell tower on the Mt. Vernon side of the church campus. This St. Barnabas outreach ministry depends heavily on the generosity of members, but also receives support and donations from people and groups outside our faith community who, like us, have accepted that same challenge to feed the hungry.

St. Barnabas members often bring non-perishable food items to Sunday worship services and place them in our designated Food Pantry station. We also appreciate donations from schools, nonprofits, businesses, and the community at large. If you or your group would like to donate to our Food Pantry, please call ahead to make sure someone is available to receive, store and distribute your items properly.

To donate prepared meals or containers of food directly into the Food Pantry refrigerator, please use reliable containers that are marked clearly with the preparation date and container contents.

This important St. Barnabas ministry also accepts online donations to help maintain a decent stock of food items that are always in demand. Make your contribution by tapping the button below.

Little Lambs Mother’s Day Out

Little Lambs Mother’s Day Out is designed for infants ages three months to Pre-K4. Each student is valued as an individual. We believe a child learns through his/her experiences, and we encourage our students to follow their natural curiosity as they explore with educational toys, arts & crafts materials, and books in their classrooms. We engage students in structured activities that are age and developmentally appropriate so they can learn important social skills such as sharing, following directions, and working as a team.

Cana Night

A summer evening of community, conversation, and celebration to benefit Outreach Ministries

Cana Night is an annual silent auction and wine tasting event with a competitive flair! You can participate individually (taste & vote) or organize a 3-person team (compete & vote). Teams bring 3 identical bottles of a select red wine. Two bottles go into bags for blind tasting. The third goes into a prize pot.

Area restaurants provide heavy hors d’oeuvres and local musicians entertain as folks monitor silent auction bids and taste as many wines as they wish before voting on their favorites. At the end of the evening, the wine with the most votes determines the winning team that takes home the prize pot of 40 to 50 bottles of wine.

A fun evening that grows more popular each year; Cana Night draws from the community at large as well as the St. Barnabas congregation. Attire is business casual, and you must be 21 to attend.

Community Partners

St. Barnabas Episcopal Church deeply values the meaningful relationships we share with our community partners. These organizations, ministries, and local leaders walk alongside us in our mission to serve others, providing compassionate care, essential resources, and holistic support to individuals and families throughout our community. Together, we amplify our impact—responding to immediate needs, fostering long-term growth, and advocating for justice and dignity for all neighbors.

We are grateful for the diversity of gifts and perspectives our partners bring to the table. Whether working with food pantries, shelters, schools, nonprofits, or civic groups, we celebrate the collaborative spirit that strengthens our community and reflects Christ’s love in action. Through shared commitment, mutual respect, and faithful service, we are continually inspired by what we accomplish together and hopeful for what lies ahead.
